What you'll need:
Two buckets: One for your cleaning solution, one for rinsing.
Microfiber cloths or lint-free rags: Several of them! Old cotton t-shirts work great too.
Squeegee (optional, but highly recommended!): A good quality squeegee can make the job much faster and easier.
Warm water: Essential for a good clean.
Dish soap (preferably Dawn): A few drops are all you need.
White vinegar: Your secret weapon for streak-free shine.
The Step-by-Step:
Prep Your Windows:
If your windows are particularly dusty or grimy, give them a quick brush or vacuum to remove loose dirt. This prevents muddy streaks!
Mix Your Solution:
In one bucket, combine warm water with a few drops of dish soap (preferably Dawn Dish soap) and about a quarter cup of white vinegar. The dish soap helps to cut through grease and grime, while the vinegar works wonders on streaks.
Wash Time:
Dip your microfiber cloth into your cleaning solution and liberally wash down your windows. Work from top to bottom. For stubborn spots, let the solution sit for a minute or two before scrubbing again.
Squeegee or wipe dry:
If
you're using a squeegee, start at the top corner and pull it across the window
in overlapping strokes, wiping the blade after each pass with a clean cloth. If
you're not using a squeegee, use a clean, dry microfiber cloth to wipe the
window dry, buffing as you go to achieve that brilliant shine.
Rinse Thoroughly:
This is a crucial step for preventing streaks! Use your second bucket filled with clean, warm water and a clean cloth to rinse away all the soap solution. Again, work from top to bottom.
Bonus Tip: If you're tackling exterior windows on a warmer day, consider doing it when the sun isn't directly on them. This helps prevent the cleaning solution from drying too quickly and leaving streaks.
There you have it! We hope you enjoy the view of your sparkling clean windows!
